The Education track explores how Free and Open Source Software can support more independent, inclusive and responsible approaches to teaching and learning. Talks will address Digital Sovereignty in schools and universities, Linux and Open Source skills, coding and computational thinking, AI governance, accessibility and the use of open technologies to give students greater understanding and control of the digital world.
Through practical experiences from classrooms, universities and educational projects, the track highlights how education can build digital competence, critical thinking and active participation in shaping technology.
A concrete example of this commitment is the FUSS Project of the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano, South Tyrol. It is a “Public Money, Public Code” initiative which has successfully used and implemented state-of-the-art free software solutions for educational purposes since 2005, fostering digital sustainability and sovereignty not only in South-Tyrolean schools.
