Who is the owner of AI-Generated works?

Seminar 2

12:4015 mins07/11/2025

As artificial intelligence systems become increasingly capable of generating content—texts, images, music, code, and more—the question of intellectual property (IP) protection for AI-generated works has become both urgent and complex.

This talk explores the legal challenges and emerging frameworks surrounding the use of AI in creative and productive processes.

We will examine:
i. whether and under what conditions AI-generated outputs can be protected under existing IP regimes (such as for examples copyright, patents, trade secrets);
ii. who, if anyone, can claim authorship or ownership of such works;
iii. the potential infringements of using third-party content in AI training and the allocation of liability when AI systems produce content that infringes existing IP rights.

Through legal analysis and real-world examples, the session will provide insights for legal professionals, developers, and organizations seeking to navigate the evolving intersection of AI and IP law.
