Training the AI systems: who owns the data? Who bears the risk?

Seminar 2

12:2015 mins07/11/2025

Although existing for many years before, AI has recently achieved extraordinary results, emulating the human mind and its creative abilities, such as translating texts, creating images, composing music and designing solutions to technical problems.

The development and the improvement of AI depends on the amount and type of data they collect and the training process.

Some of the most controversial and unanswered legal issues are:
is the data used by AI protected by IP rights?
if so, can the data owner prohibit third parties from using its data?

The talk aims to analyze the different possible answers to this question, in light of the different EU framework and the entering into force of the AI Act (EU Regulation 2024/1689).
