Has open source won? When at least 80% of all code on earth is free software, we might think so.
But data capitalism – and its corollary, mass surveillance – had never been so powerful, taking control on our lives, while its main actors became major FOSS contributors.
How do our smartphones and their global ecosystem watch us? Who can we trust? Will AI make things worse?
And what can we do to reinforce and nurture a new “social economy” collaborative paradigm that includes everyone, from businesses to associations, academics, public bodies and individuals?
Open source and open models at large have paved the way, digital commons success stories like Open Street Map or Mastodon open new paths, innovative public funding schemes like EU’s NGI cascade funding have shown a high potential: let’s build the story and tools we need to shape a new reality!
