Free Software for Data Science

Data science studies where information comes from, what its actual meaning and how it can be turned into a valuable resource to implement an effective business strategy. Mining data can be used for identifying patterns, help an organization to reduce costs, increase efficiency, address new market opportunities, and increase the organization’s competitive advantage. In the past, implementing a data mining process required a lot of investments and knowledge in various data analysis tools. However, the emergence of free software tools in the domains of Statistics, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence has now made Data Mining and Data Science accessible to everyone. In this lighting talk we will present several popular Data Science problems from different domains, such as agriculture, tourism and banking. We will show how these problems can be solved, with just a few lines of code, by using Python-based free software tools (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, tensorflow, etc.).
