ALMA Telescopes powered by RTAI Linux

Experience and benefits of using RTAI in such a big and important project like Alma.

RTAI stands for Real-Time Application Interface. It is a real-time extension for the Linux kernel – which lets users write applications with strict timing constraints for Linux. Like Linux itself the RTAI software is a community effort.

ALMA (the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array) is one of the largest ground-based astronomy projects of the next decade and the major new facility for observations in themillimeter/submillimeter regime.
