Join us for the EndOf10 event, a unique opportunity to breathe new life into old computers and reduce electronic waste. As Windows 10 reaches its end-of-life, many PCs will be discarded, contributing to the growing problem of e-waste. But what if we could give these machines a second chance?
At our workshop, we’ll be collecting max 10 decommissioned PCs from local businesses, organizations, and schools that are no longer eligible for Windows 11 upgrades. Our team of volunteers will then demonstrate how to install GNU/Linux, a free and open-source operating system, on these devices. Specifically, we’ll be using the FUSS distribution, which is already widely used in schools across South Tyrol.
The installation process will be projected onto a large screen, allowing attendees to follow along and learn from our experts. But that’s not all – we’ll also be inviting participants to get hands-on and help us install the new operating system on all the PCs. By the end of the workshop, we’ll have transformed these old machines into fully functional, Linux-powered computers, ready for a new lease on life.
The best part? All the refurbished PCs will be donated to the attendees, providing them with a free, functional computer and a chance to experience the benefits of free software. Our goal is not only to reduce waste but also to promote digital inclusion and provide access to technology for those who may not have been able to afford it otherwise.
By attending the EndOf10 event, you’ll be contributing to a more sustainable and equitable approach to technology, while also gaining valuable skills and knowledge about free and open-source software. So mark your calendars, join us for two hours of learning and community building, and take home your very own refurbished PC!
