“Open source” is now 21 years old, and its parent “free software” is 36. A new generation is building on the valuable legacy of its predecessors to create new freedom and value — but also asking searching questions. The two being asked loudest are “How can I make that big cloud company pay me for my work?” and “How can I stop bad people using my software?” In this keynote, we’ll explore the answers those questions had in the previous decade, ask if they still hold true and look at some new approaches to sustainability being tried at The Document Foundation.
