The Future of the Web: From Strings to Things

11:5014/11/2014

Even though most people still ignore it, the Web is undergoing a fundamental change from strings or keywords to things. More than 25% of all websites are already annotated with Schema.org. This allows search engines to extract and understand the data contained in web pages, integrate it, and create knowledge graphs to improve their services. An often forgotten side effect is that much of that data is available for free and can be leveraged when creating applications. Furthermore, the same underlying principles along with new technologies such as JSON-LD can be used to drastically simplify the creation of interoperable and truly RESTful Web APIs. This talk briefly explains what Linked Data is and introduces the basic technologies and ideas to ensure you are prepared for the next evolution of the Web.
