As AI systems increasingly influence society, ethical concerns around transparency, privacy, and control over information are becoming urgent. This talk explores how Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) provides the technical and philosophical foundation for building AI systems that uphold user dignity and digital sovereignty. Drawing on the work of Luciano Floridi, we will examine how infraethics, the infosphere, and information as a moral good intersect with FOSS principles. With real-world case studies like DECODE (Barcelona/Amsterdam) and data on open-source AI adoption, the talk outlines five concrete principles for building fair, accountable, and sovereign digital systems.
