Depending who you ask, it seems that recently, the European Union has started picking fights with Open Source. Regulations for software producers like the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), but also the Artificial Intelligence Act and Product Liability Directive have direct effects on Open Source developers, businesses and foundations. Where is all this coming from, and is regulation all that bad?

By looking at the political discussions and societal debates that have led up to landmark legislation like the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), Artificial Intelligence Act (AIA), Product Liability Directive (PLD), Digital Services Act (DSA), Digital Markets Act (DMA), and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the talk wants to shed some light on the ethical dimensions of European regulation.
