Can we all sit back and rest on our laurels now that open source has “won”? Oh, Heck No! There is more to do than at any time in open source’s history, and we run a very real risk of losing many of the gains we fought for over the past 20 years if we don’t look at the evolving risks. As open source expands beyond our wildest dreams, it’s important to reflect on what we take for granted. It is crucial that incoming open source participants understand what is important to sustain the movement and what is merely nice to have. It’s equally necessary that old-timers look at their bias and patterns of working in light of new-comers assumptions.
