ARCADIA is a new Horizon Europe project that aims to develop an AI-powered toolbox supporting researchers, universities and knowledge valorisation professionals throughout the innovation journey—from opportunity discovery to intellectual property management and stakeholder engagement. While the project is still in its early stages, one of its guiding principles is clear: openness should not be an afterthought but a design choice.
This talk introduces the vision behind ARCADIA and discusses how the project intends to embrace Open Source technologies, open standards and interoperable architectures wherever possible, fostering transparency, collaboration and long-term sustainability. It will also reflect on the importance of digital sovereignty in the European research ecosystem, exploring how publicly funded AI solutions can reduce technological dependencies while remaining trustworthy, reusable and aligned with European values.
Rather than presenting final results, this session invites the Free Software community to engage with the project from the beginning, sharing ideas and perspectives on how AI tools for research and innovation can be built in a way that is open, responsible and beneficial for the wider community
