Eurac Research

Researcher

Michele Claus has been a researcher at the Institute for Earth observation since 2020. He holds a master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento and one in computer science from the Technical University of Delft. Background in Remote Sensing and Computer Vision. At Eurac Research his main research activities are within the field of remote sensing, cloud computing and open-source projects. He works on software containerization, where he applies and contributes to the best practices for the best interoperability. Some of his peculiar contributions are related to the openEO API and its adoption: he maintains several related Python packages and created several tutorials for the technology uptake. He is a maintainer of the online course Cubes & Clouds https://eo-college.org/courses/cubes-and-clouds/ , developed by Eurac Research with ESA to teach EO open science using cloud technologies. Moreover, he worked with Sentinel-1 SAR data, developing the integration of complex SLC data in openEO initially within the ESA SAR2Cube project, which now became operational and available to everyone after the ESA ClouDInSAR project. Outside of work, he volunteers as a mountain bike instructor for children in the BikeMovement Trentino Erbe team and is in the board of a local environmental organization called ECONTROVERTIA, which focuses on environmental education, digital well-being, and tree planting in Bolivia.
