Dr. Mehdi Rizvi (Pakisani, with residence in Italy) is an Assistant Researcher at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (UniBZ). He obtained his PhD in computer science with excellence marks at UniBZ in 2019. After his degrees in Electrical Engineering (CIIT, Pakistan) and Mobile Broadband Communication (Lancaster University,UK), he is now working on tangible and interactive objects for the scaffolding of positive social interactions based on conversations in classrooms, as well as on digital fabrication and making for and with children. During his PhD, he has enjoyed working with an interdisciplinary team and has collaborated with experts of child development, and deafness. He has also worked with teachers and children in local schools in the area of Bozen-Bolzano. The results of this work have been published in a number of international venues, such as ACM TEI, AVI, IS-EUD, besides prestigious journals, such as Behavior and Information Technology (Taylor & Francis) and Multimedia Tools and Applications (Springer). He was among the top-3 finalists of the international ASLERD conference design competition, sponsored by Springer, and his paper was awarded the best student paper at the ACM SIG-CHI CHItaly 2017 conference.
