Mattia studied “Applied Geography” with a focus on earth observation at the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg/Germany before moving to Bolzano to study his PhD in environmental sciences both at the Institute for Earth Observation at Eurac Research and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Free University of Bolzano. Now he is working as a researcher with a focus on algorithm development for plant biomass estimation using satellite data. During the past five years, R has been the central tool for data analysis and automatization leading to the initiative to bring the BolzanoR group into being.
