Hello, I am current PhD student in Free University of Bolzano. Currently, I am interested in activity recognition for decision support for sport climbing. Before, I was working as a software engineer in different companies (mostly related to image analysis) and also, I was a teacher for students in informatics. Originally, I am from Russia, and all my life I was interested in the outdoor activities, such as skiing in the mountains, snowboarding, and sport climbing. Inspired by the mountains and the nature view, I moved to Bolzano, which is the heart of the Dolomites in my point of a view. I was curious how is it: to be living in the mountains, near the people who are climbing enthusiasts and mountain lovers (like me). For this reason, I started to do PhD in decision support in sport climbing, which aims to build a valuable system which would recommend climbers what to climb (indoor and outdoor). Many climbing routes require knowledge such as difficulty level, safety level, current situation with the road to get to the climbing route, and we are trying to profile the climbing routes in order to understand how they would be liked (or disliked) by the climber. Currently, I am trying to develop a system which would automatically profile the climber based on the activities they perform during their training. Such a profile can be used to give suitable recommendations to a person about which climbing routes to climb, or which training activities to perform. Furthermore, we have developed an automatic system for activity detection in climbing gyms via accelerometer sensors placed in a climbing equipment (quickdraw), and we were able to detect two activities: activity of ‘lowered’ and activity of ‘rope pulling’. The proposed system can be used to enrich climber’s profile via counting the number of ascents they do during their training indoor. We also analysed video for automatic activity detection in a climbing gym. The good point is that I am located near the company “Vertical-Life”, which is a major climbing company, providing climbers the guidebooks, and it is easy to develop a system when we have a real feedback from the company.
