Research Group Leader (Advanced Computing for Earth Observation)

Alexander Jacob coordinates the research group Advanced Computing for Earth Observation, within the Institute for Earth Observation at Eurac Research. He holds a licentiate degree in geoinformatics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden and is an experienced researcher and software developer in the field of Earth Observation. At Eurac Research he is responsible for the scientific earth observation data management, cloud & cluster computing and algorithm development. During the past years at Eurac Research he has been working on the setup of data cubes of multi-dimensional gridded data sets, API development for access to earth observation data as well as the development and implementation of various processing chains for value added products derived from satellites missions such as Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 and MODIS. He further is an active project manager for e.g. Eurac Research’s contribution for the H2020 openEO project and the ESA SEOM SInCohMap project as well as several internal development projects.
