Windows 10 end of support is 14 October 2025. The “End Of 10” campaign — which started at a BoF at SFSCon 2024! — created an international directory of repair collectives at the endof10.org website to help users upgrade their computers to Linux. But what happens after the end of End Of 10?

The “Opt Green” project from KDE Eco is planning a series of workshops for Repair Cafes. Repair Cafes traditionally work on material objects, and offering software repair is new to most. We want to enable an exchange between those with experience in installing and using Free Software, and those with little to no experience but interest in the topic. In this way, allied communities have an opportunity to share skills and identify ways to support each other over the long-term.

This BoF will be our first opportunity to plan and organize as a community. Open questions to discuss include, but are not limited to: What obstacles do repair cafe volunteers face with software support (as this will differ in important ways from other types of repair)? What tools do Free Software communities commonly use (forums, chat rooms) that can benefit repair cafe volunteers in exchanging tips and helping each other with problems? Are there opportunities for repair volunteers to contribute back to Free Software (e.g., submitting bug reports)?

This is a chance to discuss as a community how to support the global repair cafe network in order to continue the success of the End Of 10 campaign into 2026 and beyond.
