About

SFSCON – South Tyrol Free Software Conference is an international event that brings together developers, decision-makers, public administrations, companies and digital innovators from across Europe and the rest of the world. Held annually in Bolzano, South Tyrol (Italy), the conference focuses on the potential of Software Freedom as a driver for innovation, digital sovereignty and sustainable development.
Founded in 2001 on the initiative of the Linux User Group Bozen-Bolzano-Bulsan (LUGBZ), SFSCON has become one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to Free Software. Since 2005, it has been organised and promoted by NOI Techpark (formerly TIS innovation park), in South Tyrol’s leading innovation and research district.
SFSCON offers a space where experts, students and enthusiasts come together to exchange ideas, share best practices and explore the latest trends in open technologies. With its diverse and growing line-up of speakers from around the world, it is a key meeting point for the international Free Software community.
Since 2004, the South Tyrol Free Software Award (SFS Award) has been presented annually at the conference, celebrating individuals that have made outstanding contributions to Free Software. In 2023, SFSCON introduced the European SFS Award, extending this recognition to contributors who have made a significant impact at a European level.
